Ashlei Shyne
Ashlei Shyne is a talented LA-based comedy writer, actress, filmmaker, and activist originally from Dayton, Ohio. Known for her notable role as Josephine Baker in the acclaimed, Daytime Emmy-winning sketch series "The Book of Queer," which streams on Max and Discovery+. Ashlei's work often revolves around love, Black women, and the LGBTQ+ community. As a writer, she strives to create character-driven comedies that resonate with diverse audiences.
Her web series "TMI" and short film "Sia" have been showcased in countless national and international film festivals. She’s a proud alumni of the 2021 Tribe Writers’ Fellowship, led by Amy Aniobi—writer, director, and executive producer of HBO’s Emmy-nominated series “Insecure”—Ashlei has refined her comedic voice through rigorous training in sketch writing and improv performance at prestigious institutions like the Upright Citizens Brigade, IO West, and Second City LA.
In 2017, she founded Rainbow Bright Comedy, a BIPOC LGBTQ+ improv troupe, which underscores her commitment to uplifting underrepresented voices in comedy. Outside of her creative pursuits, Ashlei enjoys traveling, diving into internet research on quirky topics that may or may not come in use, and nurturing her extensive collection of plant children.
